Why Do We Lose Our Health
and Wellness In The First Place?
It is through the nervous system that we
perceive the world, coordinate all body parts and functions, adapt to
stress, and express emotion. When the brain receives more input or
information than it is able to process readily, it can perceive this
input as overwhelm, or trauma. This can be any type of
physical,
emotional, or
chemical stress. Examples of such stress include heavy
lifting, a fall or accidents, the loss of a loved one, relationship
problems, medications and other toxins. When this happens, the spinal
cord can store the information of our life experience as tension. Our
body can experience this tension as muscular spasm, spinal misalignment
or distortion, and decreased breathing and movement into that area. This
often results in physical symptoms like neck and back pain, stiffness,
headaches, altered posture, spinal degeneration, and many other chronic,
long term health problems.
Much of what many disciplines seek to correct through
massage, manipulation, and therapy can be the result of underlying,
unresolved tension stored in the spine and nervous system from the
accumulation of stress.
Over time the body develops physical changes to the
perceived traumas and stresses throughout our life, resulting in
stress physiology and defense posture. This stress physiology and
defense posture limits the body's ability to recover. We may function
and respond to life as if the stress is still occurring.
